Why an egalitarian permaculture community?

Our political, economic, social and agricultural systems are unhealthy. Hypothetical cures abound but before us lies a living alternative that works. Egalitarian communities have created an equitable society on a small scale that so far surpasses the integrity of the prevailing system that it deserves to be replicated.

Twin Oaks community in Virginia has during its 48 years in existence established systems and structures  that have been successfully replicated at least five times. These six communities together constitute the Federation of Egalitarian Communities, an umbrella organization devoted in part to fostering the development of new egalitarian communities.

Meanwhile the modern nature-taming paradigm of agriculture is giving way incrementally to the human-nature integration of permaculture. Ethics, insight and ingenuity have pushed beyond conventional farming to create a future that thrives.

An egalitarian permaculture community? It's an idea whose time has come. We have everything we need to move forward. We have been gifted the knowledge and wisdom of the generations of permaculturists and communitarians who have gone before us. By accepting those gifts we can establish an alternative to our current political, economic, social and agricultural systems.
